Mexican-born soprano Priscilla Salisbury is an internationally recognized vocalist, educator, and cultural advocate whose artistry celebrates the richness of Mexican and Latin American heritage while expanding the presence of Spanish-language and Indigenous repertoire in the classical music world. Known for her shimmering voice, captivating stage presence, and versatility, Salisbury has built a career that bridges opera, sacred music, Latin American traditions, and community engagement.

Salisbury has originated title roles in several world-premiere operas, including Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers with Houston Grand Opera, Lucinda y las Flores de la Nochebuena with Opera in the Heights, and Earth to Kenzie with Seattle Opera. She also created the role of Mrs. O’Malley in It’s a Wonderful Life with Houston Grand Opera. Her traditional operatic repertoire includes the title role in Hansel und Gretel with Opera in the Heights and Casilda in The Gondoliers with Winter Opera St. Louis.

Her artistry has been recognized nationally and internationally. Most recently, Salisbury was named "Best Female Singer" at the inaugural Catholic Music Awards in Rome, an honor recognizing her performance of "Rejoice greatly, o daughter of Zion" from Handel's Messiah. Her other distinctions include the "Encouragement Award" from the Seattle Opera Guild Competition, First Prize in the Greater Houston Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Advanced Adult Classical Competition, and recognition in the Master Works Competition in Houston. She is also a recipient of the Ugo di Portanova Scholarship, which supported her Italian studies at the Università per Stranieri di Siena in Italy.

At the heart of Salisbury’s artistic mission is a commitment to preserving, celebrating, and sharing the musical heritage of Mexico and Latin America. She is particularly passionate about bringing Indigenous Mexican music into concert halls and introducing audiences to the beauty of languages and traditions that are often underrepresented in classical music. Her work demonstrates how classical artistry can serve as a bridge between cultures, generations, and communities. She also uses original music to celebrate community and cultural identity. In anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, she released "Houston We Are One," an original Houston anthem celebrating the city’s diversity, unity, and vibrant cultural spirit.

This mission is exemplified by Canciónes de mi Tierra, for which Salisbury served as artistic director and soprano. The multidisciplinary concert celebrates art songs in Nahuatl by Mexican composer Salvador Moreno, combining classical voice, Indigenous poetry, and traditional Aztec dance. Salisbury received the Let Creativity Happen! Artist Grant from the City of Houston and the Office of the Governor through the Houston Arts Alliance. The program premiered in Houston to a sold-out audience, bringing Indigenous Mexican language, music, and dance together on the concert stage and creating an opportunity for audiences to experience an important part of Mexico’s cultural heritage through a contemporary classical lens.

Salisbury has continued this work through performances that connect Latin American traditions with classical music. She continues to be a featured artist with Ars Lyrica Houston in Orígenes: Voice and Percussion through the Ages, part of the Hobby Center’s Discovery Series, an educational program exploring the evolution of vocal and percussion traditions while incorporating Latin American influences and storytelling for young audiences. She was also featured in Pasiónes, a recital supported by the City of Houston’s Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, celebrating beloved Latin American boleros—including “Solamente una vez,” “Bésame mucho,” and “Sabor a mí”—alongside dramatic zarzuela arias. Through these programs, Salisbury invites audiences to experience the emotional depth and cultural richness of Latin music through the artistry of the classical voice.

Beyond the stage, Salisbury is deeply committed to education and mentorship. She has served as an adjunct professor of voice at Texas Southern University and Lone Star College–Montgomery, focusing on diction and private voice study. She is also an active board member of the Greater Houston Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Salisbury currently serves as a Teaching Artist with Houston Grand Opera, where she helps bring arts education to the community. She continues to teach in her private studio, mentoring singers as they develop their technique and prepare for collegiate and professional careers.

Building upon her dedication to artistic excellence, cultural preservation, and education, Salisbury founded Aria Arts Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to making the arts more accessible, fostering artistic development, and celebrating cultural diversity. Through three core initiatives—arts outreach in schools and communities, professional development workshops for artists, and multidisciplinary cultural performances—the foundation seeks to create meaningful opportunities for artistic expression, education, and cultural exchange. Embracing music, dance, visual arts, and other creative disciplines, Aria Arts Foundation reflects Salisbury’s vision of the arts as a powerful force for connection, opportunity, and community enrichment.

Her commitment to education extends beyond the foundation through vocal and music education workshops presented nationwide, including programs for church musicians in collaboration with Oregon Catholic Press. These workshops help singers and cantors develop vocal technique, deepen their understanding of Scripture and Psalms, and proclaim sacred texts with clarity, confidence, and prayerful expression. She also maintains a Spanish-language music education YouTube channel that reaches viewers around the world, expanding access to vocal instruction and music education for Spanish-speaking singers and audiences internationally.

Through her performances, educational initiatives, and leadership of Aria Arts Foundation, Priscilla Salisbury continues to use her voice not only as an instrument of artistic expression, but as a means of honoring her heritage, preserving cultural traditions, and creating opportunities for others. Her work reflects the vibrant contributions of Mexican and Latin American culture to Houston’s artistic landscape while advancing a broader vision in which the arts transcend cultural and generational boundaries, inspire understanding, and bring communities together.
